BENEDMO Factcheck Database

Overview

The BENEDMO Factcheck Database is a centralized fact-checking database designed to aggregate and cross-reference information from multiple reputable sources dedicated to debunking misinformation. The BENEDMO Factcheck Database allows users to search for facthecks from over 100 accredited organizations in 20+ languages.

Our sources

We aggregate information from ClaimsKG, Claim Review and de Checkers. Additionally, we collect factchecks from other organizations, not covered by the above sources, such as LeadStories and Reuters and local initiatives such as Gezondheid en Wetenschap. The complete list of sources covered by the BENEDMO Factcheck Database can be consulted in the toolbox on the left side of the search page.

The majority of factchecks in the Database are from IFCN-signatories, i.e. organizations that have been assessed for compliance with the International Fact-Checking Network's code of principles. The user has the option to search for factchecks from IFCN-signatories only.

Real-time updates

The BENEDMO Factcheck Database constantly monitors fact-checking websites and databases for new information. The database is updated every hour to ensure users have access to the latest and most accurate information.

For each factcheck we index the following fields: title, summary and (if available) the reviewed claim. These fields are indexed in the original language, but semantic search (see below) allows the user to search cross-lingually as well. Additionally, we perform language identification on each factcheck.

Semantic search

The BENEDMO Factcheck Database's cross-lingual semantic search engine provides an alternative way to search for information. It allows users to search for fact-checks based on the meaning of the query, rather than the exact wording. The semantic search engine works cross-lingually, meaning that users can search for fact-checks in any of the 20+ languages covered by the database, regardless of the language of the query. Enter whole sentences, paragraphs, or even entire article texts to be shown related fact-checking articles with similar themes and topics.
